Immerse yourself in the beauty of North County Mayo, Ireland, and the inspiring Ballinglen Arts Foundation

Color Woodcut Workshop

Join woodcut artist Charles Spitzack in exploring the landscape and culture of North County Mayo, Ireland, in this 10-day workshop at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation!

This workshop is open to both experienced printmakers and those just beginning their journey. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Irish countryside, we'll spend time exploring and sketching en plein air-drawing inspiration directly from the rugged coastline, quiet fields, and shifting skies of County Mayo.

Back at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation (BAF), we'll carry the energy of the landscape into the print studio, where we'll transform our drawings into expressive woodcut prints. I'll focus on hand-printing techniques using brayers and oil-based inks on washi paper, but if more experienced printmakers would like to focus on Mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock), I'll be glad to offer guidance in that approach as well. With access to a press, we'll have the chance to experiment even further.
