BOTANICAL WOODCUTS: THE ART OF RELIEF PRINTMAKING

Winslow Art Center – ONLINE ART CLASS

Dates: Tuesdays, March 3-24, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Pacific Time

Discover the art of woodcut printmaking through the organic forms and rhythms of botanicals in this 4-week online art class. Transform trees, plants, and foliage into bold, layered woodcut prints carved from woodblocks.

Drawing from traditional and contemporary woodblock printmaking techniques, you’ll learn to design, carve, and print compositions inspired by branching structures, leaf patterns, and natural textures. The class covers the full woodcut process, from planning imagery to carving woodblocks and hand-printing finished prints.

We’ll hand-print on Japanese washi using Cranfield Safe Wash Relief Inks—non-toxic, easy to clean, and ideal for at-home printmaking without a press.

This online woodcut printmaking class is suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers alike. Beginners will have access to supplemental videos covering essential woodcut techniques. With an emphasis on experimentation and composition, the workshop encourages fresh, expressive approaches to botanical forms.
